Valve pricing is project-sensitive — send line sizes, pressure class, and media notes.
Valves are where small specification errors become expensive returns. We wholesale industrial and process valves to contractors, civils teams, and merchants who need correct pressure classes, compatible faces, and sensible lead times. The Alberton trade desk in Alrode South, Gauteng, quotes from the enquiry, not from a catalogue dump that leaves your site team guessing. Send the line; we will tell you what we can quote now.
Socketed resilient seated gate valves on PE
A large share of South African water and estate work isolates PE with a socketed resilient seated gate valve rather than a flanged body and a pair of stub flanges. The socket is sized for the PE outside diameter. That is why many trade descriptions use a dual millimetre call-out such as 100-110mm: DN100 on the waterworks side, 110mm PE on the pipe side.
Those valves are commonly specified with SABS 664 language on municipal and civils packs. We treat that as tender language to confirm, not as a certificate we print on this page. Confirm the edition, PN or class, closing direction, and operator (cap top or handwheel) with the engineer before you substitute.
A worked example on this site is the 100-110mm socketed resilient seated gate valve. Use it to see how we describe a socketed RSV for a 110mm PE transition. Other OD pairs exist in the same family. Ask the branch which sizes are in the current range rather than assuming the whole ladder is on the shelf.
Typical manufacturer notes (non-rising spindle, epoxy coating, EPDM or NBR gate) belong on the datasheet you attach to the quote, not as a substitute for the project specification.
Face-to-face, PN, and class
Replacing a valve in an existing chamber is a face-to-face problem before it is a brand problem. If the new body is longer or shorter than the installed length, you either cut pipe, add a dismantling joint, or send the valve back. Tell us:
- DN / NPS and whether the ends are flanged, threaded, wafer, or PE-socketed
- PN or Class (and the flange drilling if it is not the default you always use)
- Face-to-face or a measured gap in the chamber, including any dismantling allowance
- Media, temperature, and whether the line is potable water, process water, or something else
We will echo assumptions in writing so your engineer can bless or correct them. We do not invent a pressure class from a photo of a handwheel.
Couplings, VJ patterns, and dismantling joints
Contractors often ask for a Viking Johnson-style coupling or a dismantling joint in the same breath as the valve. Those items are not a separate fake catalogue on this site. We get coupling enquiries and quote them from the high-pressure desk when the size and coating are in the current range.
If your BOM names a branded coupling, send the OD, PN or class, restrained vs unrestrained, and the gap you need to close. We will confirm whether that coupling is in the current range. If it is not, we say so early rather than substituting a lookalike without engineer approval.
Pair valve enquiries with HDPE high pressure & electrofusion when the main is fused PE, and with compression fittings when the service is mechanical.
Application-first sourcing
We organise quotes around what the line does, not only the part number:
- Water reticulation and boosting: isolation, non-slam checks, maintenance-friendly ball patterns.
- Process and plant water: materials and seats matched to declared media (never assume).
- Building services: threaded and flanged mixes where installers transition from HDPE to steel or copper.
Gauteng crews collecting from Alrode South, Alberton should say so on the enquiry. It changes how we stage long bodies and whether a same-day collection is even worth discussing.
What to send for a fast quote
- Line size and schedule / pressure class
- End connection (flange standard, thread form, wafer, PE socket OD)
- Actuation: manual, lever, gear, pneumatic, electric
- Any face-to-face or trench depth constraints
- Media and temperature range
Photos of nameplates help. Photos alone are not a spec.
Merchants and repeat SKUs
Branches that move predictable SKUs benefit from restock min/maxes and pre-agreed alternates when a factory run slips. See Merchant & distributor desk for how we align call-offs.
For a takeaway pack (HTML plus an open PDF, no live ZAR), use the valves trade brochure. It lists families we quote and what to send. It is not a live price list and not a dump of every SKU. Category URLs still land on this hub. Ask the branch which sizes are in the current range rather than quoting an old Woo PDF.
Standards language
We frame tender language conservatively on Standards & specifications. We supply products rated for the applications described by manufacturers and commonly specified for South African waterworks when the datasheet aligns with your pack. Interpreting SABS 664, flange standards, or fire-listing rules for your site remains with the design team.
